Get to Know
Dr. David Chong

Dr. David Chong was born and raised in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. Growing up in the same place all his life, he understands the profound impact that constant figures in the community can have. He hopes through his practice, he can be that same kind of resource for you and all of Olympia. Before you meet him in person, you can learn a little more about his background below.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Multiple roads all led to dentistry for Dr. Chong. He was always interested in the healthcare field, so he volunteered to go on a dental mission trip to Guatemala after he finished his undergrad. Thanks to this experience, he saw firsthand that dental care wasn’t just about technique and knowledge (which are both important), but making a genuine connection with each patient as well. And, as the child of immigrant parents, he often had to accompany them to dentist appointments to translate. By becoming a dentist, he hoped to remove the potential cultural and language barriers that many patients have to face so it is easier for them to receive care.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Chong attended the University of Washington and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology, and he went on to earn his dental degree from the same institution. Since then, he has taken several continuing education courses, including ones for dental implant placement and restoration, clear aligners, sleep apnea therapy, and advanced treatment planning.

He is also a member of the American Dental Association, Washington State Dental Association, and he has studied with some of the top instructors in the world at the renowned Kois Center.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

In his spare time, Dr. Chong is always looking for new hobbies to try out. He loves being active outdoors, so you’ll often find him snowboarding and biking. Dr. Chong and his wife’s weekends are often filled with trying out new restaurants, hiking around the PNW, and spending time with their families, who live close by. Because he is also a big fan of road trips, his goal is to one day design and build a camper van so he and his wife can explore more trails together.
